– While campaigning in Mombasa, Raila and Kalonzo differed briefly over the support of their individual parties
– Kalonzo Musyoka was aggrieved by the fact that Raila’s party seemed to be taking everything almost leaving Wiper party with nothing
– While speaking during Iftar, a Muslim celebration that ends fasting, Kalonzo reminded the guests that NASA has other parties other than ODM
While attending Iftar- a Muslim evening meal that ends the fast during Ramadan, Kalonzo Musyoka and Raila Odinga differed sharply.
Kalonzo seemed irked that everywhere that NASA goes , ODM seems to take the largest chunk of everything.
Speaking at the feast which was organised by Hassan Joho, the Mombasa Governor, Kalonzo asked the guests not to forget that NASA is made up of four parties.
“Don’t say ODM,ODM, ODM and take everything because that will leave us with nothing, NASA has other parties, ANC, Ford Kenya and Wiper, lets stop asking voters to only elect ODM candidates,” Kalonzo said.
His fears are well meant because ODM enjoys the largest chunk in parliament with 95 MP’s in parliament and 19 senators.
The Wiper party has 25MP’s and 4 senators.
When Raila rose to speak he said although NASA is a coalition, every party was at liberty to campaign for its candidates independently.
“I know Kalonzo will campaign for Wiper, Ruto will vouch for CCM, Mudavadi for ANC and I say, select ODM candidates in Mombasa, ” Raila said.
Earlier in the year, NASA had revealed that its affiiate parties were at liberty to field candidates in regions where all the parties enjoyed equal support.
In May, In May, TUKO.co.ke reported that FORD Kenya and ODM were in wrangles after FORD K asked ODM to ask their candidates to step down in Bungoma.
FORD K claimed that the region was its stronghold and having ODM candidates would be handing the seats directly to Jubilee.
NASA allows individual parties to field candiates in region where they enjoy exclusive support.
